The establishment efforts of Özyeğin University were initiated in the fall of 2005 by the Hüsnü M. Özyeğin Foundation. As part of the founding process, extensive research was conducted involving more than 500 participants from the business community, faculty members, university and high school students, along with a comprehensive study titled “Emerging Sectors and Professions in Turkey and Worldwide.”
Based on the findings of these studies, design efforts led by ARAMA Participatory Management Consulting facilitated discussions on the University’s core values and vision together with all stakeholders. Through a series of workshops involving over 300 participants—including business leaders, academics, university students, and recent graduates—the vision of Özyeğin University was collectively shaped.
Within the framework of this shared vision, Özyeğin University was officially founded on May 18, 2007, with the goal of becoming a distinctive institution that contributes to societal development through a contemporary education system, an innovative structure closely integrated with real life, and an industry-engaged educational approach supported by purposefully designed academic programs.
The University welcomed its first students in September 2008 at its Altunizade Campus in Istanbul and has been offering education at its Çekmeköy Campus since September 2011.
Özyeğin University was founded as a third-generation Entrepreneurial University, aiming to educate not only professionals and researchers but also successful entrepreneurs. Guided by the belief that universities play a critical role in strengthening the Turkish entrepreneurship ecosystem, Özyeğin University has shaped its strategies accordingly.
Entrepreneurial Students
Özyeğin University supports its students’ entrepreneurial ideas and provides the necessary resources to transform these ideas into real, sustainable companies.
Entrepreneurship Factory
Established in strategic partnership with Turkcell and launched in May 2011, the Entrepreneurship Factory hosts approximately 8–16 new ventures each year. This initiative demonstrates how the University’s academic research capacity extends beyond R&D to actively foster innovation and entrepreneurship.
Sectoral Solutions Program
In line with its principle of providing practice-oriented education closely integrated with the business world, Özyeğin University offers the Sectoral Solutions program. Through these courses, students are given a unique opportunity to engage with senior executives from leading companies and institutions across various industries.
Internship Opportunities
Extensive internship opportunities aim to prepare students as highly sought-after graduates. In addition to mandatory internships, students are offered paid internship opportunities at various companies. High-achieving students may also benefit from international internship opportunities and, within the scope of project-based placements, take advantage of the Erasmus student mobility program.

English-Taught Academic Environment
With the exception of a few programs, all academic programs at Özyeğin University are offered in English. The Faculty of Law is taught in Turkish, while the Faculty of Architecture offers the same programs in both English and Turkish. Students benefit from international exchange programs and overseas internship opportunities, and a large proportion of third-year students begin participating in exchange programs at partner universities.
